zyglo

zyglo
i. A proprietary nondestructive inspection technique to confirm the presence of cracks in materials using a fluorescent penetrant.
ii. A fluorescent penetrant used to soak the concerned part for an appropriate length of time, after which the part is rinsed and all penetrant is cleaned off the surface. The part is then placed in a fixture that vibrates and is observed under an ultraviolet light. If the vibration opens up a crack that has accepted some of the penetrant, the crack will show up as a glow in black light. Also called wing zyglo or blink zyglo.
